The Nitroblue Tetrazolium Dye Reduction Test by Peripheral Neutrophils of Normal Children

Abstract
The NBT reduction tests are widely used as a screeing test for the differentiation of bacterial infections from non-bacterial diseases since 1968.
There are some articles¢¥ on the NBT test studied in various infectious diseases of adults in Korea, ¢¥ but few in children.
The NBT test was done in 82 normal children by the method of Park et al." with minor modification from April to September, 1976.
The results were as follows:
1) The percentage of NBT positive neutrophils under 3 months of age were 21.0¡¾11.0%, 17.2¡¾9.3% in 3 to 12 months, 14.2 ¡¾7.6% in 1 to 6 years, 10.8¡¾6.1% in 6 to 10 years, and 8.8¡¾5. 1% in 1(i to 18 years of age.
2) The absolute number of NBT positive neutrophils under 3 months of age were 1, 302¡¾720, and 3 to 12 months, 1 to 6 years, 6 to 10 years, and 10 to 18 years were 439¡¾250, 529 ¡¾427, 533¡¾299, and 419¡¾259 respectively.
3) There were no sexul differences in both percentage and absolute number of NBT positive neutrophils.
4) In the percentage of NBT positive neutrophils there was a significant difference between under 3months and over 6 years of age, while in the absolute number of NBT positive neutrophils there was a significant difference at the age under and over 3 months.
